Various shareware which doesn't use it are cracked by crackers mainly because they use weak protection schemes. Most rely on Registration Codes which may be cracked by experienced crackers. Other protection schemes might include time checks or key files. But most shareware are, in effect, Registered releases and once the cracker patches the correct places, the shareware will behave as Registered release.
The better form of protection involves only distributing Demos which has limited options. Registered users are sent the Registered release or are told of the URL to download the Registered release. Without this program, legitimate users might only register a copy of it, download it and afterward share with their friends.
Code-Lock prevents the producing of the Registered release of the tool unless the correct registration serial is used. The registration serial will not be valid on another personal computer. The Registered release will only function on the registered user's personal computer.
There is no necessity to download a full release by the registered user. Furthermore, the complete release is watermarked by this utility and may be traced to the registered user. Attempts to eliminate the watermark will render the tool useless.
