Review and how it works

Eraser was designed as a complex security application, which assists the user to wholly clean sensitive data from the hard disk by overwriting it different times with carefully chosen patterns.
You are able to drag and drop files or full directories to the on-demand eraser, use a handy Explorer shell extension or the included scheduler to specify when to overwrite the unused disk space or to delete the webbrowser cache: during a work break, weekends or whenever you desire.
Protected Data Removal Application to wipe, remove and clean files and history such as index.dat.
The patterns used for overwriting are derived from Peter Gutmann's paper "Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory" and they are chosen to easily clean the magnetic remnants from the hard drive.
Other methods include the one defined in the National Industrial Security Utility Operating Manual of the US Department of Defense and overwriting with pseudo-random data. You are enabled to define the individual overwriting methods.
