Review and how it works
by SoftSpecialist
WinRAR was designed as the Windows edition of RAR Archiver(archive manager).
While it brings complete support for RAR and ZIP archives, there is also support for unpacking of CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7z and Z archives.
WinRar is known as a very good and trusty archiving software which may backup your data faster and with higher compression rate than the competitors.
It can be used to reduce the size of email attachments, decompress RAR, ZIP but also additional types of files downloaded from the Internet and output new archives in either its native format or ZIP.
If you choose to compress files into a .RAR archive than you will frequently notice that an extra 10 percent of space can be saved compared to the .ZIP or .ARJ equivalent files.
The compression utility easily recognizes and selects a good means, adapted for the files which you have.
The unusual data compression algorithm, used by Winrar, handles multimedia files, executables and object libraries particularly well.
The application incorporates a multithreaded edition of the compression algorithm, which gets better file compression speed.
The leading options are smaller size of the outputs, encryption, processing of third-party archives (such as ZIP, ARJ, and LZH), damaged archive fix, programmable self-extracting archives (SFX).
What is new? New "Multithreading" feature.
"Define volume sizes..." is one of the new features.
"Rename automatically".
Feature added to "Benchmark and hardware test" command to this new edition.

This instrument was built as a Windows release of RAR Archiver.
Provides a mean to fix a damaged archive.
Programmable self-extracting archives (SFX).
Incorporates backup facilities, volumes, long filename support.
The pros High speed and compress ratio.
Reliable algorithm.
Its nice and intuitive interface makes the difference once again.
The cons The Mac OS X and Linux versions do not have a graphic interface, they work in command line only.
