Submit website to internet directories: Is it worth?

Web site submission services - the truth

SEO - Website Search Engine Optimization | All Articles

Your site is up and ready for the web. The work is finished!? It's a little bit naive to say yes, it is! In fact the real work not even started. Now, you need visitors to appreciate your new born website baby. The best way is search engines which indeed can help you. But, you have to help them, too. You have to tell to the search engines that your website is good enough to be ranked well in the SERP.
A good sign that your site is good are the back links. Being an inexperienced webmaster or just a site owner, you will look for some buddies to help you with some links. Being inexperienced, some "buddies" will look for you to "help" you with some links. They are the self-called "SEO" directories. They are the sharks.

I'm not talking here about DMOZ, Yahoo Directory and other one or two really good directories I can't remember right now (why?... possible because they aren't...).

There are a few ways to submit websites to these "SEO directories": manual and automatic web site submission, free and paid submission.

You will opt for manual submission, but due to so many "buddies" wanting to help you may need an automatic service. The sharks of the sharks.
You will opt for free submission, but be aware that nothing is free in this world. Of website submission...

1. Free submission: your site will be listed between thousands of other websites. Why free? Because they need to fill their directories and to look respectable. How will they make you pay? There are simple techniques they use for this kind of submission in order to be sure that your link will not be counted by search engines.
2. Manual: a lot of lost time for no results.
3. Paid: Ok you'll pay, doesn't matter how much (from 1$ to hundreds). Do you think your brand new and paid back links will be useful? Daddy Google has an eye on you and knows that the link is not naturally born. It could even spank you for this. Google knows that the link you just received is in a websites directory especially made for getting links and will not take it into account. So, don't waste your money with these sharks.
4. Automatic or paid manual submission to free directories and search engines: tired of manual method with no results, you'll choose an automatic website submission service. Your "best buddy". In fact, the sharks of the sharks.

Aggressive announcements let you know how they will boost your link number and your SERP. If you didn't visited until know such a service online you may need to visit them. Testimonials. Thousands of directories. Success guaranteed. Money back not guaranteed.

Just check the sites from their testimonials to see that you'll pay for nothing. This happens because:

1. The most of the free directories listed by these services are not really free and without paying the submission cannot be performed.
2. Many of this free websites directories don't accept submissions from third parties.
3. Search engines don't like these 'SEO' web site directories and don't take into account the links.
4. Submission to search engines is a scam and you'll get only spam instead. The real search engines will find your site themselves and don't have a ‘submit' feature.

In conclusion, using these services, this is what you'll get: a few worthless back links not taken into account by search engines, a lot of spam and less money in your pocket. I'm not talking here about DMOZ, Yahoo Directory and other one or two really good directories I can't remember right now...
